Recently I have been chatting with a friend about the evidence of God. My friend has been an atheist all his life. Until he sees proof God is real he will forever remain an atheist.

For me God has always been a part of my life from a very young age. My parents taught me to put God first in everything. They took me to church every Sunday morning, Sunday evening, Wednesday evening, and also anytime something special was happening. However this did not automatically make me a Christian. I still had to make a choice to follow Jesus for myself.

As I was continuing the conversation with my friend he asked me a very important question. What proof of God’s existence have I seen in my own life. I admire him for asking such a question. Whether we realize it or not I think we all have a longing for proof that God is real.

Here are a few things that came to my mind as evidence of God in my life.

God Hears My Prayers

Countless times I have prayed and God has answered. One particular time was when my daughter Victoria was born. I was watching a TV program before I headed to the hospital to be induced. During the program the special guest was talking about Psalm 34:19. The righteous person may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all.

I did not really think too much about the verse until I ran into trouble during my labor. All of a sudden I start losing a lot of blood, the baby’s heart rate was dropping, and I was becoming weak, because my placenta was detaching. The nurses and doctor rushed into the room and tried to get the baby’s heart rate up by moving me into different positions. Nothing was working and I was still losing blood. While I was experiencing these serious complications I remembered this Bible verse and prayed a simple prayer, “God deliver me.” As soon as I prayed this prayer I had total peace. I knew God heard me and answered.

I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers! Isaiah 64:24

God delivered me and my baby girl. We made it through this serious situation. I knew God was with me.

God Provides for My Needs

God’s provision is also evidence of God in my life. Numerous times God has miraculous provided for our needs. My husband has been in sales all our married life. If you know much about sales it can be a roller coaster of ups and downs. One particular season sales were awful. His check from work had a big fat zero on it. Some weeks it was only fifty dollar. I was homeschooling my kids and babysitting occasionally, but not making much money to help out.

My reaction to the problem was to pray and continue to trust God. It was a difficult time and I did have moments of doubt wondering when God was going to come through for us. However I never doubted his existence.

Amazingly through this long season God showed His provision over and over again. We found gift cards in our mailbox, cards with money in them taped to the front door, and a few times someone paid our house payment. Everything came at just the right moment when we needed it the most.

During this season our oldest son was in college and we had an international student living with us from Africa. He was in a rough situation too and needed us to provide for his transportation, living space, and food. God’s miraculous provision brought us through with our son coming out of college debt free and the international student living with us for three years. By the way we had six children of our own to care for at this time as well.

Luke 12:24 Look at the ravens. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for God feeds them. And you are far more valuable to him than any birds!

God Gives Me Joy

Joy is evidence that God is real. Joy is not the same as happiness from getting something new or external pleasures. This joy is from knowing God and it is not controlled by circumstances. I can be going through a hard time and all of a sudden have a joy deep in my inner being that reassures me everything is going to be okay. Life is hard, but this inner joy fills me with strength.

Psalm 94:19 When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy.

God Speaks to Me

This may surprise you, but God speaks to me. Most of the time it is through his word the Bible. The Bible is full of wisdom and guidance for our everyday lives. It is filled with stories of people who have struggled like you and I struggle. People who have faced hardships, sickness, and difficulties. Through reading these stories God speaks to my heart. Having God in my life is like a relationship. I spend time talking and listening to God and he listens and speaks to me as well.

John 10:27
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.

I believe there is evidence of God all around us. Just go look in the mirror if you need proof. Humans were handcrafted by God himself made in his image. When you look outside and see this beautiful world filled with mountains, rivers, trees, flowers, rocks, and the vast ocean it speaks loud and clear of God’s existence. For me God is real. I hope this inspires you to seek God and find him.

Deuteronomy 4:29 But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Blessings,

Tina
